Vonnegut - admired as much for his views and his “Vonnegutisms” as for his publications - wrote extensively in many forms, including novels, short stories, essays, plays, articles, speeches, and correspondence, some of which was published posthumously. ![]() Vonnegut (1922-2007) is one of the most celebrated of American authors. In the collection, Vonnegut explores his childhood, college life, and time in the army, as well as his thoughts on the hypocrisy of the Reagan administration. This experience provided inspiration for his most successful and influential novel, Slaughterhouse-Five. Published in 1991, Fates Worse Than Death is a collection of autobiographical essays by Kurt Vonnegut. In the Second World War, he became a German prisoner of war and was present during the bombing of Dresden.
